MURFREESBORO, Ark. — One Crater of Diamonds visitor scored the second-largest diamond found in the park this year.

According to a press release from the state park, the anonymous finder discovered the 2.30-carat stone while walking near a pavilion.

“From far away it shined so clearly,” the finder said in the release. “I thought it might be a piece of trash or a bug; it was so much shinier than anything else out there.”

When the finder picked it up, they realized it was a shiny stone. They pocketed it and later had it checked by park staff before leaving for lunch.

Park staff confirmed it was indeed a diamond and weighed in at 2.30 carats.

In 2024, three diamonds weighing more than two carats have been registered at Crater of Diamonds. A total of 548 diamonds weighing 82 total carats have been found this year.
