    Second trial set in 1989 Douglas County cold case

    AVA, Mo, — A trial date has been set outside of Douglas County for a second of the three suspects in the death of Kelle Ann Workman in 1989 .

    Bobby Lee Banks is to stand trial for first-degree murder in August of 2025 in Wright County, according to online court records.

    Banks, his brother Leonard Banks and a third man, Wiley Belt, are accused in the long-unsolved slaying that came to a head after an unnamed eyewitness stepped forward with information about the death.

    Workman’s body was found in Christan County after she went missing from her job as a caretaker of the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Douglas County on June 30, 1989.

    Leonard Banks is to stand trial in Phelps County in May of 2025. Belt is set to appear in court in Douglas County on Nov. 5, 2024, for a plea hearing or trial setting.
