Saint James woman dies in single-vehicle crash

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — A single-vehicle crash in Phelps County killed a woman from Saint James, Missouri on Tuesday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

Debra J. Patton, 64, was driving a 2018 Lincoln MKC SUV west on Highway 8 two miles east of Saint James when the crash occurred.

The crash report says at approximately 2:48 p.m., Patton’s SUV traveled off the right side of the road and crashed into an embankment, overturning the vehicle.

Patton was taken to Phelps County Hospital by Saint James Ambulance, where she later died from her injuries. Her next of kin have been notified.

This is the 27th fatality in MSHP Troop I in 2024.
