Habitat for Humanity starts work on new subdivision phase

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — Habitat for Humanity celebrated the final phase of a decades-long project at a groundbreaking for a new part of its Legacy Trails Subdivision.

The construction site has been an empty field up until now, waiting for the right time and funding to be available to make it into a neighborhood.

“The infrastructure development cost was so expensive that we just couldn’t do that because we put all of our fund into building homes,” said Chris Tuckness, Executive Director of Springfield Habitat for Humanity. “So when the ARPA funds came about it was a great opportunity for us to the infrastructure.”

Once the groundwork is complete, Habitat for Humanity will be able to build 13 new homes adding on to the existing subdivision.

The people who buy homes from Habitat in Legacy Trails have the benefit of being surrounded by others who have been through similar experiences.

Each partner homebuyer volunteers to help build homes before buying their own with a 0% interest loan.

Habitat for Humanity says they already have a partner homebuyer excited to move into the first home in the new section in the near future.
