SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Missouri Job Center officially opened the doors at its new location Tuesday. The job center says things are still a work in progress as they settle into the new space, but they are excited to serve from their new location.

According to a press release from the job center, the new center, located at 1660 N. Campbell Ave., will start serving clients on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The former location (2900 E. Sunshine St.) is now closed to the public.

“We moved to zone one because the unemployment rate tends to be higher, and people who live in zone one often have more barriers,” said Katherine Proctor, spokesperson for the Missouri Job Center. “And so we want to be able to meet them where they’re at and be more convenient for them so they don’t have to travel across town to use our services.”

Parking lot upgrades at the new location are ongoing, so visitors are asked to park on the east side of the building along Boonville Avenue until work is complete.

The Missouri Job Center says the new site features a computer resource area where job seekers can create or update resumes and conduct job searches. The space also features a computer lab for workshops taught by Job Center staff. All services are available for free.

“We are excited to make the move to a more centralized location and better serve those who live in areas with the greatest need,” said Amanda Ohlensehlen, Director of Workforce and Economic Vitality with the City of Springfield. “Our new office has a bus stop nearby to help those who have transportation barriers.”
