SPRINGFIELD, Mo – The City of Springfield is ordering the owners of Jenny Lind Hall to hand over maintenance contracts.

“It’s their prison.” Elevators at Springfield complex for elderly, disabled remain broken

It comes after months of controversy surrounding the apartments for disabled and elderly tenants who often struggle to navigate the six-story building with no working elevators.

Letters from the property manager show the elevators broke on May 15. KOLR 10 Investigates began following the issues in June when they persisted.

The city says the owner, Cleveland-based Millenia Housing, has two weeks to provide maintenance documents and proof of payment for pre-production and engineering.

The city declared the building a nuisance property in July.

    The apartments will remain open.
