SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man was charged on Friday after allegedly choking a nurse at Cox North Hospital on 1423 N. Jefferson Ave. in August 2024.

Online court documents state that Caleb Bowling is charged with felony third-degree assault of a special victim.

According to the probable cause statement, Springfield police were called to Cox North at around 5:14 p.m. on August 19, 2024, for a report of an assault.

The victim — a registered nurse — told SPD that Bowling launched himself at them and put them in a headlock. After pushing Bowling against the wall, he “cranked down” on the victim’s neck and made it difficult for them to breathe.

Another nurse came to the scene and grabbed Bowling’s left arm, causing both nurses to be able to put him on the ground and stop the assault. According to online court documents, Bowing’s alleged attack was random.

Court documents also state that Bowling was on probation for a month for DWI in Lawrence County before the incident. He was also charged in a separate incident in Stone County earlier this year for misdemeanor assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest and driving while revoked.

A warrant has been requested for his arrest.
