Firework Explosion Destroys Little Library in Indiana Park
Highland, IN – A little library was destroyed for the third time Saturday morning in an apparent Fireworks explosion. According to the Highland Police Department,on Saturday morning, officers were dispatched to Brantwood Park following reports of property damage. At approximately 12:24 a.m., officers arrived at the corner of Lincoln Street and Woodward Avenue to find that an unknown individual or group had used a large firework to blow up the “Little Library” located at the corner. The explosion resulted in the total destruction of the library, with debris and books scattered across the area.
Indiana American Water Donates Two Dump Trucks to City of Gary for Public Works
Indiana American Water gives back to the people of Gary creating safer roads for all. Indiana American Water, one of the state's leading providers of water and wastewater services, has announced its donation of two dump trucks to the City of Gary. The trucks can be used for any application the city sees fit but will be instrumental in supporting the city's snow removal efforts, particularly during the winter months when efficient snow plowing and salting operations are crucial for maintaining safe road conditions.

Life-Saving App Now Available in La Porte County
(La Porte, IN) - La Porte County now has a life-saving app that could turn ordinary people into heroes. It’s called Pulse Point. As first responders are notified of a medical emergency, Pulse Point alerts subscribers to any nearby medical emergency as it’s happening and lets them know where the nearest AED is located. Pulse Point spokesperson Shannon Smith says the alert can help shave precious seconds off response times: “The goal is really to engage the community in cardiac arrest response.”

Whiting Park Festival Orchestra kicks off Summer with the Symphony 2024 season with concert celebrating Mother Nature’s power
On the cool evening of Saturday, July 20, the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra (WPFO) performed the first concert of its Summer with the Symphony series at Whiting Lakefront Park’s Mary E. Bercik Memorial Pavilion. The theme of this free concert was “Don’t Mess with Mother Nature!” Attendees set up their lawn chairs and folding tables on the grass in front of the pavilion, either enjoying snacks from home or snacking on treats from the concession stand. Martin Dybel, general manager of the WPFO, founded the orchestra alongside conductor Maestro Robert Vodnoy in 1999. Dybel also established the Summer with the Symphony concerts in 1994 and believes that the program has had a significant positive impact on the Whiting community.
