The 30th Door Village Harvest Festival
The 30th Door Village Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 9:00 to 4:00 P.M. and Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Scipio Township Park, 3501 W. Joliet Road, in historic Door Village. There is No Admission charge to attend the festival, however Parking is $3.00 per vehicle and any Donations will be greatly appreciated. All proceeds from the festival will go to benefit the Scipio Township Park. Saturday morning will have a patriotic opening ceremony at 8:30 and the annual Pancake & French Toast Breakfast from 7:30 to 10:00 A.M. which is Free to all Veterans compliments of Mayor Tom Dermody. Both Saturday and Sunday a variety of foods will also be available from local vendors at the Food Court as well as the delicious homemade baked goods from the popular Country Bake Shop. There will also be old-fashioned Ham and Beans as well as Chicken and Noodles on Sunday from 11:00 until it’s gone.

(La Porte, IN) - A leader in the agriculture community for the region is stepping down from his position. Indiana Farm Bureau District 1 Director Harold Parker decided not to seek reelection after nine years in the seat. His district covers Lake, Porter, La Porte, St. Joseph, Starke, Fulton, Marshall and Pulaski counties.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department, and the Hammond Sportsplex are excited to announce their newest event: The First Responder Games. The Hammond Sportsplex will host a series of tournaments for local fire and police departments. Towns, cities, universities, volunteer departments, counties, and state are encouraged to send their police and/or fire teams to compete. For each tournament, one side of the bracket will be fire departments pitted against each other, with police vying for top spot on the other side. The fire winner will take on the police winner to determine the champion. Team registration is free.

Chicago police announced charges Friday in a deadly shooting last weekend.The suspect, 40-year-old Jonathan Atkinson, was arrested Thursday, police said.
