Southern California is grappling with the wrath of a powerful storm, unleashing heavy rain across the region and inciting significant flooding concerns alongside potential mudslide hazards, prompting urgent warnings from officials.

In Oxnard, residents received early morning advisories to steer clear of city streets due to flooding. Social media footage depicted submerged roads, causing vehicles to stall and become trapped in the deluge. Ventura County's Incident Information Source urged individuals to stay indoors until the floodwaters receded.

Evacuation orders or warnings were issued for various areas, with the Oxnard College gymnasium serving as a shelter for affected residents. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office reported an alarming rate of rainfall, with certain regions of Oxnard and Ventura accumulating over 2 inches in just an hour, further advising against any unnecessary travel.

A flood watch encompasses portions of Southwest California, including Coachella Valley, Orange County coastal areas, and San Diego County coastal areas, persisting until Friday evening, as highlighted by the National Weather Service in San Diego. Forecasts anticipate the heaviest rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the night and into Friday morning, possibly leading to excessive runoff and flooding across rivers, creeks, and low-lying regions prone to inundation.

The precipitation poses an added risk to recent fire-ravaged zones, where debris slides and mudflows are likely, as warned by Los Angeles County Public Works on Wednesday night. The storm, characterized by its sluggish pace, is forecast by The Weather Channel to traverse inland across Southern California throughout the initial phase of Friday.
