CHSAA Celebrates 2023-24 Coaches of the Year
AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association would like to congratulate all of its 88 coaches that were honored as a Coach of the Year for their respective sport and classification this past year. There were 59 different schools with at least one coach earning Coach of the Year honors, while 23 schools had multiple recipients.
Road construction at College Avenue, Mulberry Street to cause delays starting Monday
Expect delays at and around the Mulberry Street and College Avenue intersection beginning Monday as stormwater improvement work is set to begin. Construction work to improve stormwater and pavement infrastructure will start Monday, July 8, in the 100 block of Mulberry Street, just west of South College Avenue, and is expected to wrap up by Friday, July 26.

A Denver nonprofit, Peace Love and Paws, which provides free veterinary services for low-income individuals and those experiencing homelessness, is facing potential closure if a new location isn’t found soon. For the past five years, the nonprofit has operated out of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, but the church’s new programs will no longer allow animals inside.

Fatima Kline won’t have to go through Dana White’s Contender Series after all. Days after news surfaced that Kline (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) would partake in DWCS on Sept. 24, she’s aborted that mission to jump right into the big show. On less than two weeks notice, Kline will elevate a weight class to 125 pounds to fight Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC on ESPN 59, which takes place July 13 at Ball Arena in Denver.
Repaving work on Laurel Street near Colorado State University starts July 8
Repaving on Laurel Street along the north side of Colorado State University will likely cause some delays through the end of July and possibly into August. West Laurel Street between South Shields and South Mason streets will undergo concrete repairs starting Monday, July 8. The work is expected to take about three or four weeks, weather permitting, according to the city of Fort Collins.
Jaylyn Sherrod getting another opportunity in the WNBA
Colorado women’s basketball great Jaylyn Sherrod is getting another chance in the WNBA. As announced Saturday, the New York Liberty, which previously waived Sherrod in mid-May prior to the regular season, signed Sherrod to a seven-day contract. The 5-foot-7 point guard will be available for Saturday’s game against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever (11 a.m. MT, CBS). In two preseason games with the Liberty, Sherrod averaged six points and recorded two steals in each contest. Sherrod led the Buffs to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back Sweet 16’s, during her five years in Boulder. She closed her college career as Colorado’s all-time leader in games started (133).
