GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ( KREX ) – A crash Thursday night resulted in one driver receiving “serious bodily injuries,” according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

The incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. when two vehicles collided around 28 3/4 Road and North Avenue. GJPD and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the scene where first responders transported one driver to a local hospital while the other was evaluated on the scene.

Circumstances of the incident are under investigation, but speed is being looked at as a factor of the crash, according to the police department.

The eastbound lanes of North Avenue between Harris Road and Melody Lane were closed for several hours so first responders could remain on the scene.

I was working at the north Ave Walmart when this happened, everyone said the lady didn't make it but I'm so glad she's alive. I heard from witnesses that two cars were racing and the person with serious bodily injuries was just an innocent bystander caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The second car that was racing took off with their lights off, per multiple witness accounts.
