GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ( KREX ) — The Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT teams were deployed Wednesday morning after two Motel 6 guests barricaded themselves in the building.

Around 3:30 p.m., the two unarmed individuals – Jake Rodriguez, 33, and 39-year-old Vanessa Zubiate – came out peacefully and were arrested.

The two were allegedly scheduled to check out that morning at Motel 6, 776 Horizon Drive. SWAT teams secured the adjacent areas and blocked off any potential exits for escape. Hotel guests, staff and nearby residents were evacuated for safety reasons.

Rodriguez and Zubiate were transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on active warrants with additional charges pending.

GJPD said in a press release it believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
