60 pounds of meth seized at Fruita traffic stop

MESA COUNTY, Colo. ( KREX ) — The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people and seized 60 pounds of methamphetamine at a traffic stop in Fruita on Tuesday.

An investigator with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force performed a traffic stop on a vehicle after a traffic violation. The investigation that followed led to the seizure of approximately 60 pounds of methamphetamine, which investigators discovered were on their way to the Denver area for distribution, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officers arrested 25-year-old Joe Guerrero III of Stockton, California and 30-year-old Maria Magallon-Chavez of Lorain, California and both are currently being held at the Mesa County Detention Facility.

Both were charged with unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of controlled substances; they also received a special offender designation for importing the substance into the state.

Guerrero is being held on $50,000 bail; Magallon-Chavez’s bail is set at $10,000.
