Opinion: Is DoorDash Turning a Blind Eye to Criminals Working on its Platform?

Recently, there was a news story about a suspect, identified as a Venezuelan migrant accused of shooting two officers after they tried to pull him over for driving the wrong way. But prosecutors say his criminal activity goes much deeper than this one incident.

This suspect came into this country illegally a year ago. He was arraigned on a number of charges, including two counts of attempted murder in the first degree. He used to live at a shelter off Ditmars Boulevard but says he was kicked out.

The suspect made a shocking confession to authorities, saying that he is a member of the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and that that gang is smuggling firearms into migrant shelters.

Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, the Venezuelan migrant who shot two police officers earlier this month, came face to face with a judge recently.

The 19-year-old arrived in a wheelchair and didn’t say a word, but prosecutors say he spoke at length with investigators giving shocking details of that night and what he’s been up to since he arrived in New York City. He told cops he worked for DoorDash and received the gun he used to shoot the officers from a friend.

Reporters did reach out to DoorDash, they just got back and said that they have no record of anyone by that name working for Doordash.

As for DoorDash, they do run random background checks. As a Doordash driver myself, I can vouch for this. But how can you do a background check on these illegals who have fake accounts and are basically ghosts in the system? They have no driver’s license. They don’t know the laws about driving on the road, as you can tell by the guy who was going the wrong way on the street, and they have no paperwork.

DoorDash definitely has a problem on their hands, that they need to clean up, and the sooner, the better. Sure, they turn a blind eye to these illegals working on their platform, because they need people to pick up all the non-tipping orders.

Regular citizens of America would not pick up those orders. They would instead, choose to cherry-pick, or only pick up orders that made financial sense. To pick up an for $4 going 12 miles makes no financial sense. But the illegals pick them up. They pick up everything. This causes the pay rate to go down on DoorDash.

If customers start to realize that their order is going to be delivered if they don’t tip or ask for their order to be delivered 15 miles away from the restaurant to their house, it just ruins it for the rest of us dashers.

Also, they use phone jammers and bots and ways to hack into the system to take all the orders from everyone else. I have no problem if someone wants to work at Doordash to support their family.

However, I do have a problem if you are using unscrupulous tactics to make it so no one else can get an order, and interrupting their living, so they can’t support their family.

Before there was a migrant crisis, I made $20 to $30 an hour on DoorDash. Now I make minimum wage.

Once these customers start hearing more and more horror stories about these criminals working on this platform, they will slowly stop using the platform to get things delivered, because they simply won’t feel safe.

Also, the merchants get tired of the illegalspushing their phones in the faces of their employees and demanding their food. They can’t speak English so all they can do is flash their phone into the air. It’s rude and disrespectful and it has given us as dashers a bad reputation among merchants who do business with us.

Also, they’ll work 3 or 4 DoorDash accounts at one time, using 3 or 4 different phones, and greedily take all the orders for themselves, rendering almost everyone around them helpless and hopeless to get orders.

If this keeps going on like this, Doordash will be out of business and Dashers will be out of jobs. The point of this article is to get Doordash to wake up and do a serious house cleaning of its platform. Don’t just think about profit, think about the safety of its customers, which should always come first.
