Adams Gave P. Diddy a Key to the City; Now Both Are Facing Criminal Charges

A year ago, Eric Adams gave P. Diddy a key to New York City. This month, both of them were charged with crimes.

During a Times Square ceremony, Eric Adams gave P. Diddy the key, which was a symbol of recognition for people in New York who’ve accomplished amazing success. Sean Combs was born in 1969 in Harlem and later went to Catholic school inside the Bronx.

Eric Adams, currently 64, also declared that day "Diddy Day."

According to 54-year-old Combs, he said he wanted to thank everyone for the honor and for recognizing him as a proud person in New York by presenting him with a key to the city.

Earlier in the year, Eric Adams asked that Combs give back the key in light of the increasing controversy that surrounded him, which came to a crest last week when P. Diddy was indicted and arrested on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Combs has stated that he is innocent of these charges.

Now, Adams is also in the legal hot seat.

Within an indictment that was unsealed on Thursday morning, federal prosecutors accused Adams of years long public corruption.

According to prosecutors, the mayor solicited bribes from foreign nationals in order to support his personal travel and political campaigns.

According to the indictment, in the span of a decade, Adams accepted a variety of gifts, like discounted or complimentary Turkish Airlines flights,  trips on yachts, and vacations at luxury hotels.

Users on social media, especially Twitter (X), speculated whether Adams and Combs partied together or knew one another socially.

Sean Combs was notorious for throwing annual glamorous white parties inside the Hamptons. The mayor, who gave himself the nickname "nightlife mayor," is frequently witnessed going in and out of late-night spots and glitzy members-only clubs, which includes Zero Bond.

According to reporters, representatives for Eric Adams didn’t respond to requests for comments.
