SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) has announced that the Recreational Trails Program is now accepting grant applications for the 2024 grant cycle, with approximately $1.6 million in funds available. The program offers matching grants to support the construction, expansion, and improvement of public trails for both motorized and non-motorized use across Oregon.

Eligible projects include trail construction, heavy restoration, development of trailhead facilities, acquisition of land or easements, purchase of trail building and maintenance equipment, safety and education initiatives, trail assessments for accessibility or maintenance, and the development of water trails.

    Key Dates and Application Process

Interested applicants must submit a letter of intent by September 30, 2024, via https://oprdgrants.org. Full applications are due by November 15, 2024.

To assist applicants, OPRD will host an optional informational webinar from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 11. The webinar will cover program details and provide guidance on the application process. Registration is required, and participants can sign up at this link. A recording of the webinar will be made available afterward on the Recreational Trails Program web page.

The grant program is open to a wide range of entities, including local governments, park districts, state and federal agencies, tribal governments, other public land managers, and nonprofit organizations. Since its inception in 1993, the Recreational Trails Program, funded through the Federal Highway Administration and administered by OPRD, has supported over 550 projects across Oregon.

Detailed information about the program, including the grant manual, application instructions, and program schedule, can be found on the Recreational Trails Program web page.
