LINN COUNTY, Ore. — The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is asking for public assistance to identify the person(s) responsible for the unlawful killing and waste of a 5x5 bull elk in Linn County. Fish and Wildlife troopers from the Albany Area Command responded to a report of a bull elk shot with a centerfire rifle sometime between August 30-31, 2024.

The bull elk was found near the Lulay and Roaring River mainlines in the Snow Peak permit area east of Lebanon. The animal had been gutted, partially skinned, and left to waste, violating Oregon’s wildlife laws.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact an Albany Fish and Wildlife trooper through OSP dispatch at 800-442-2068 or by dialing *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone. The case number is SP24285185. Those providing tips may remain anonymous, and a reward—either cash or preference points—will be offered for information leading to a citation or arrest.

Oregon’s TIP Program

The Turn In Poachers (TIP) program encourages the public to report wildlife violations. It is a collaboration between the Oregon State Police, Oregon Hunters Association, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and other groups, aimed at combating poaching and wildlife crime.
