Linn County, OR - On September 1, Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about an injured 16-year-old male backpacker from Portland near Duffy Lake. The teen had suffered a broken leg, and a nearby hiker was sent to Maxwell Butte Sno-Park to contact emergency services. At 4:00 PM, the good Samaritan reached Linn County Dispatch, prompting Search and Rescue (SAR) teams to mobilize.

Linn County SAR coordinated with the Oregon Office of Emergency Management, who enlisted the National Guard for helicopter assistance. Although thunderstorms delayed the air rescue, ground SAR teams, including EMTs and a paramedic, reached the patient at 5:55 PM. At 7:52 PM, after the weather cleared, the National Guard successfully hoisted the injured teen to St. Charles Hospital in Bend.

Sheriff Michelle Duncan praised the efforts of the SAR volunteers and the National Guard, whose teamwork ensured the successful rescue. SAR is primarily composed of volunteers, and their dedication makes these missions possible.
