SALEM, Ore. – A suspected kidnapper was shot and injured early Friday morning after a dramatic encounter with Salem Police officers. At around 4:30 a.m., the police responded to a distress call from a woman who reported she was being kidnapped. Officers quickly tracked down the suspect's vehicle, which led them to an apartment complex on Glen Creek RD NW.

As officers approached the vehicle, the woman managed to escape from the car. The suspect, however, had other plans. He stepped out of the vehicle brandishing a knife, which led to officers opening fire. Two officers shot the suspect, a 34-year-old male, who was immediately given medical aid before being transported to Salem Health, where he is currently being treated.

Thankfully, no officers were injured in the incident. The Polk County Law Enforcement Use of Deadly Force Plan, as outlined under Senate Bill 111, has been triggered. The Oregon State Police will now handle the primary investigation, working closely with the Polk County District Attorney’s Office. Any further updates, including the identity of the suspect and the officers involved, will come from the Oregon State Police.
