Lebanon, OR – Yesterday, Lebanon Fire District crews tackled a 5-acre grass fire initially dispatched as a “burn complaint.” The first unit struggled to access the fire, prompting a request for additional resources. Battalion Chief 31 arrived on the scene to find the fire burning slowly across a harvested field. The response was escalated to a first alarm, bringing in three engines and a water tender. Crews contained the fire swiftly and spent an additional hour extinguishing hot spots along the field and fence lines.

🚨 Reminder: Linn County Outdoor Burning Delayed Until October 20, 2024 🚨
The Linn County Fire Defense Board, representing several fire agencies, has extended the outdoor burning ban to October 20, 2024. Originally set to begin on October 15, the delay follows ongoing dry conditions and aligns with the Oregon Department of Forestry’s (ODF) recommendations.

With fire risks still high due to the absence of rain and above-average temperatures, Oregon’s 2024 fire season has been among the most severe in history. Over 1.9 million acres have burned across the state, with 89 classified as "large fires" and 50 caused by human activity.

The burning delay aims to reduce wildfire risks, with current conditions—dry vegetation, low humidity, and strong winds—creating the potential for fires to spread rapidly. Residents are urged to comply with the restrictions to protect public safety and avoid overburdening firefighting resources.

    Participating Fire Agencies:

    • Albany Fire Department
    • Lebanon Fire District
    • Sweet Home Fire District
    • Scio Fire District
    • Tangent Fire District
    • Brownsville Rural Fire District
    • Halsey Fire
    • Harrisburg Fire & Rescue
