Oregon & USA – A massive recall involving 11 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat products has been issued due to potential listeria contamination, affecting products sold at major U.S. retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Trader Joe’s.

The recall began on October 9 when BrucePac, a pre-cooked meat producer based in Woodburn, Oregon, recalled 9,986,245 pounds of its meat and poultry products. This was expanded on October 15, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) added an additional 1,779,040 pounds to the recall, bringing the total to 11,765,285 pounds.

    Contamination Details

Routine testing by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) detected listeria monocytogenes in BrucePac’s meat and poultry products produced at the company’s Durant, Oklahoma facility between June 19 and October 8, 2024. Listeria is a serious bacterial infection that can cause severe illness, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

    Affected Products

The recalled products have been shipped nationwide to distributors, food service providers, and retailers. Hundreds of ready-to-eat items are affected, including wraps, salads, meal kits, tacos, and sandwiches. The USDA has released a 345-page document listing specific brands and product labels impacted by the recall. Some of the brands affected include:

    • Trader Joe’s
    • Fresh Express
    • Atkins
    • Dole
    • Kroger
    • Boston Market
    • Home Chef
    • Meijer
    • Walmart’s Great Value
    • Amazon Kitchen

    Retailers Involved

The affected products are sold at major retailers across the country, including:

    • Walmart
    • Target
    • Trader Joe’s
    • 7-Eleven
    • Kroger
    • Amazon Fresh
    • Wegmans
    • Giant Eagle
    • Publix
    • H-E-B
    • Aldi

Due to further distribution, some of the recalled products may have been sold under different establishment numbers or labels. Consumers are advised to check their product labels and discard or return any affected items.

    FSIS Recommendations

The FSIS is urging consumers to stay updated on the recall by regularly checking the USDA website for the latest information. Consumers are also encouraged to review the list of affected products for specific best-by dates, establishment numbers, and brand names.
