Tragic Rollover on I-84: Unbuckled Passenger Ejected and Killed in Baker County

BAKER COUNTY, Ore. – A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 310 on October 16, 2024, resulted in the death of a passenger and left the driver with serious injuries.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., Oregon State Police responded to the scene. The investigation revealed that a Toyota T100, driven by Zachary Edward Schuringa, 34, of Denver, Colorado, lost control, overcorrected, and rolled into the median before coming to rest.

Charlie Ann McDowell, 29, of Lakewood, Colorado, was a passenger in the vehicle and was ejected during the crash. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schuringa sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The highway remained open during the on-scene investigation, which is ongoing. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) assisted at the scene.
