    Armed 79-Year-Old Arrested After Pointing Gun at Neighbor in Corvallis Dispute

    Corvallis, OR – On October 18, 2024, at approximately 1:38 PM, officers from the Corvallis Police Department responded to a report of an armed individual near 775 NW 23rd St.

    The suspect, identified as 79-year-old John Robert Berman of Corvallis, was reportedly armed with a pistol during a dispute with a neighbor over property stored in a common area. Officers secured the scene and made contact with Berman via phone. He peacefully exited a nearby apartment and surrendered to police without incident.

    After an investigation, officers determined that Berman had pointed the handgun at his neighbor during the argument. Berman was arrested and transported to the Benton County Jail, where he faces the following charges:

    • ORS 166.220: Unlawful Use of a Weapon
    • ORS 163.190: Menacing
    • ORS 166.190: Pointing a Firearm at Another

    The Corvallis Police Department is continuing its investigation into this incident and remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community.
