LAWRENCEBURG, IN – Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early this morning at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in Lawrenceburg, leaving one man dead.

The incident began shortly before 1:00 a.m. when police responded to a disturbance on the fourth floor of the hotel. According to initial reports, an adult male suspect was threatening and pursuing another individual with a knife. Upon arrival, officers from the Lawrenceburg Police Department were informed that the man had begun firing a gun on the fourth floor.

Officers encountered the suspect in a hallway and ordered him to drop the handgun. The man opened fire on the officers, prompting them to return fire. The suspect was struck by police gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending proper identification by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office and notification of his next of kin.

A victim, who was confronted by the suspect with a knife before police arrived, sustained minor injuries. Authorities believe the victim did not know the suspect. No other injuries were reported among hotel patrons, and guests were relocated from the affected area.

The identities of the officers involved have not been released, and they have been placed on administrative leave as per Lawrenceburg Police Department protocols.

The Indiana State Police is being assisted in the investigation by the Lawrenceburg Police Department, Dearborn and Ohio Counties Prosecutor’s Office, Dearborn County Coroner’s Office, and Hollywood Casino and Hotel Staff. The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be presented to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
