    Motel Standoff Turns Deadly: Suspect Shot by Police in Lincoln City, Investigation Underway

    Lincoln County, OR – The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred in Lincoln City on October 19, 2024.

    At approximately 12:22 p.m., the Lincoln City Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Motel 6 located at 3517 NW Highway 101. Upon arrival, officers identified the male suspect and discovered he had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Officers also found a stolen vehicle in the motel parking lot, linked to the occupants of the room.

    At 1:04 p.m., officers contacted the male suspect inside the motel room. The suspect was noncompliant and had two firearms in his waistband. During the encounter, the suspect reached for the weapons and was shot by officers.

    First aid was administered on-site, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. His identity has not yet been released as authorities are working to notify the next of kin.

    Following standard protocol under Senate Bill 111 and the Lincoln County Deadly Force Response Plan, the Lincoln County Major Crime Team was activated, with the Oregon State Police leading the investigation. Assisting agencies include the Newport Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln City Police Department, the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office.
