    Head-On Collision on SR 525 Leaves Two Injured, Drugs or Alcohol Suspected

    Island County, WA – On October 19, 2024, at approximately 7:18 p.m., a head-on collision occurred on State Route 525 near milepost 23. Washington State Patrol officers responded to the scene, where two vehicles collided after one vehicle, traveling southbound in the northbound lane, struck another vehicle traveling northbound.

    The drivers, identified as Moises Matzarcumes, 25, and Nimrod Depaz, 43, both from Langley, were transported to WhidbeyHealth Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The condition of the drivers is currently unknown.

    Preliminary reports indicate that drugs or alcohol may have been involved in the crash, but the incident is still under investigation. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.

    The Washington State Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
