Butte County, CA – On October 17, 2024, just before 6 PM, emergency responders were dispatched to a report of a vehicle over the edge on Centerville Road, near Hell Town. Upon arrival, the first unit discovered an SUV approximately 300 to 400 feet down the embankment.

Rescue crews were able to access the victims using a nearby flume road. Two victims were found at the scene. Utilizing a combination of a wheeled stokes basket and a rope lowering system, personnel successfully rescued the surviving victim. Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The surviving victim was transported code 3 to a nearby trauma center.

Responding agencies included California Highway Patrol (CHP), Butte County EMS, and the Butte County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue.
