Newport, OR – The Newport Police Department (NPD) is excited to announce that Officer Jerimiah Mangum has been selected as the new K9 handler for K9 Sly, the department’s newest addition. K9 Sly, a German Shepherd born in August 2022 in Germany, is trained in obedience, tracking, area/building searches, and handler protection.

Officer Mangum and K9 Sly will undergo extensive training together over the coming weeks to prepare them for their duties. When not on duty, K9 Sly lives at home with Officer Mangum, enjoying time with the whole family. Sly is known for his love of chewing on his favorite toy, long walks on the beach, and lounging in the sun.

The Newport Police Department congratulates Officer Mangum on his new role and warmly welcomes K9 Sly to the team!
