The next week features above-average temperatures and a few isolated showers through Sunday. There is also the potential for a pattern change by late Wednesday or Thursday through the following Sunday.
After a few lucky ones saw a cooling shower Wednesday, it will be the case again on Thursday, but only with about 10% coverage. Afternoon highs will creep close to 100 degrees and an Air Quality Alert is in place and will likely continue through the weekend.
The upper-level ridge of high pressure that's been baking the western United States will creep a little bit closer to North Texas on Friday. However, another weak disturbance will ride down the lee side of the Rockies and bring another chance for a late-day shower storm on Saturday. This upper-level feature will drift into West Texas on Sunday and Monday taking our rain chances with it. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 90s through the period. Some areas may hit 100 degrees.
The western upper-level ridge will nose its way into North Texas on Monday and Tuesday. Afternoon highs will flirt with the century mark once again.
By late Wednesday and especially by the end of next week, this ridge will slide back into the western United States giving Dallas-Fort Worth a pretty strong northerly flow in the upper levels of the atmosphere. This combined with a trough of low pressure digging into the central plains states may drive a cold front into the area Thursday. If this front stalls over the area, Friday into the next weekend could be a bit rainy along with cooler temperatures to enjoy.
