Weak cold front to keep temperatures below 100 degrees through the weekend

A rare August cold front will keep temperatures under 100 degrees until next week. And some lucky North Texas residents might even see some rain before the end of the weekend.

A weak cold front sagged south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area Friday morning and there's even some shower activity in southern Oklahoma that's diving southeastward. A few showers will wet the roadways across the northeastern half of North Texas through the noon hour. Another area of showers and storms will form south and southwest of DFW later Friday afternoon and evening. Plus, the Heat Advisories are gone for now. They have been suppressed into the southeastern third of the state. Afternoon highs will only reach the low to mid-90s across North Texas.

As we work our way through the weekend, a couple of upper-level disturbances will be diving southeast out of the Texas Panhandle towards north Texas during the morning hours Saturday and Sunday. Most of the data shows these clusters of storms weakening before they reach North Texas. If any rain does fall, it'll mainly be before the noon hour on Saturday and Sunday. Due to more cloud cover, afternoon highs once again reach the low to mid-90s.

After this weekend, rain chances are gone and high pressure builds back across the area in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Temperatures will warm to near 100° on Monday, 101° on Tuesday, 102° on Wednesday, and 103° on Thursday. Heat Advisories will be returning due to heat index values between 105° and 110°.
