Texas judge blocks release of A-F accountability scores for public schools

Once again, a Texas judge has blocked the release of A-F accountability grades for public schools...at least for now.

A handful of districts sued for those grades not to be released...claiming they would be invalid because they're based on "flawed" STARR testing results. Questions have risen over using computers to grade essay portions of STARR tests.

The Dallas Morning News reports that many districts claim their high schoolers scored zeroes on written responses that were graded by the computer.

Texas Education Agency commissioner Mike Morath has defended the A-F school rating, saying the ratings are a big factor in how schools and districts are perceived.

A hearing over this temporary restraining order is scheduled for Aug. 26.
