Triple digits will disappear for a while, and there will be increasing rain chances and slightly cooler temperatures through this week and into the holiday weekend.

Monday morning began with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and nothing on the radar. The ridge of high pressure in the upper levels that's been baking North Texas over the past week to 10 days has shifted into the northern plain states and Midwest, taking the advisories and warnings for heat with it. In its wake, an east-to-southeast flow in the upper levels of the atmosphere will set up across the Lone Star State this week and into the holiday weekend. This will increase the moisture at the surface. It will also bring what are called easterly waves into Texas.

The first disturbance will ride to the south of North Texas on Monday and Tuesday, keeping most of the rain chances well to the south of the area. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 90s.

A second disturbance will move a little bit closer to Dallas-Fort Worth on Wednesday and Thursday bringing a slightly better chance of afternoon and early evening showers and storms to the area. Afternoon highs will cool a little bit with readings topping out in the mid-90s.

Friday through the holiday weekend looks to be a bit cooler. Afternoon highs will top out in the low 90s, cooler if it rains at your house. There could also be a slow-moving cold front that will approach the area by Saturday. This combined with daytime heating will produce a slightly better chance of afternoon and evening showers and storms anywhere across North Texas. Wherever this front decides to stall will determine the focal points where numerous showers and storms will occur.
