The owners and operators of a troubled apartment complex in Mesquite are facing massive fines if they don't fix their property, pronto.

The Tradewind Apartments have been a thorn in the side of many for years. Residents have complained the heat doesn't work in the winter and the air conditioning doesn't work in the stifling summer. Since 2023, the city has issued more than 700 citations.

And earlier this month the city had to send emergency crews to the complex after a 70-year-old woman complained she was having trouble breathing. It wasn't a medical condition, the city says, it was a lack of air conditioning. The lawsuit lists incident after incident of insect problems, code violations and overall poor living conditions.

It wants a judge to order corrective action to the tune of 1,000 dollars a day until the problems are fixed
