The weather across North Texas is slowly changing as Labor Day weekend approaches. There will be increasing rain chances and cooler temperatures.

Thursday was a quiet morning across North Texas with temperatures in the 70s under a clear sky. Cumulus clouds will develop after noon and there could be scattered showers and storms trying to sneak in from the east around 6 p.m., however, most will stay dry. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid-90s. Heat index values will approach 100. The average high this time of the year is 94 degrees.

An area of low pressure continues to spin off the lower Texas coast. This will provide more scattered showers and storms in the southern half of the state through the holiday weekend. A cold front will slowly edge into North Texas the second half of Friday, and then go stationary over our area into the holiday weekend. Scattered showers and storms will sneak in from the northwest late in the day Friday. About 40% of the area has a chance to see rain. Afternoon highs will reach the lower 90s.

Saturday and Sunday will be partly to mostly cloudy and warm. Afternoon highs will be near 90 degrees on Saturday and in the upper 80s on Sunday and Monday. Scattered showers and storms remain in the forecast during the afternoon and evening hours.

More of the same for Labor Day with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s with a bit more cloud cover. There's still the threat of afternoon and evening showers and storms, but they will be scattered again.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, showers and storms may become more numerous as an upper-level low slowly creeps in from the west. Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 80s.
