We're typically hot and dry for Labor Day across the state, but it's a totally different story this year!

Good morning my friends and happy Labor Day! Yes, I'm laboring on Labor Day, but welcome to the life of a meteorologist! We have a few spotty showers moving from east to west across north Texas this morning. The more widespread rain will continue to fall well to the west of DFW today, we're Flood Watches are in place for parts of the Big Country, Heartland and Concho Valley. Temperatures are in the 70s with a beautiful sunrise occurring at the present time.

At stated above, it's very rare to see this much rain on radar across the state on Labor Day. What's causing it? Well we have a stationary frontal boundary off to the west of us. This coupled with a very strong upper level disturbance working its way off the Mexican Plateau that will slowly move into west Texas today. Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity will produce some localized flooding in areas where two to five inches of rain will fall. Sonora, out in west Texas yesterday received almost 4 inches of rain prompting flood warnings. This disturbance will slowly be moving northeast over the next 48 hours and moving across north Texas tomorrow. That's the day I think we see more widespread rain, but not everyone will see heavy rain.

Just some scattered showers and isolated storms for north Texas today with afternoon highs ranging from 80° to the west to 90° to the east. I think we'll settle into the mid 80s across DFW. Please keep in mind a lot of you won't see rain today, the heaviest will be to the west of us.

Tomorrow will be the day we see more widespread rain across north Texas. While nothing severe is expected, the heaviest rain will fall along and east of Central Expressway and Interstate 45. Some areas could easily pick up an inch, with isolated higher totals to the west of Interstate 35W. Afternoon highs will only reach the lower 80s, 70s in the rain.

This upper level system will move northeast of the area on Wednesday. There will be a few afternoon and early evening showers and storms, with the greatest coverage east of Dallas. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 80s.

Thursday through Sunday will be bone dry. We'll reach the lower 90s with sunshine Thursday and Friday, near 90 on Saturday and Sunday as a weak front backs to the area.

Please remember if you hear thunder, seek shelter immediately. Enjoy your Labor Day and the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
