Candles, balloons, and mementos were being placed at memorials outside Dallas police substations as the people of Dallas remembered an officer gone too soon.

Officer Darron Burks was murdered in his patrol car on the job last week and a vigil was held to honor him Friday night. Over the weekend and even today, impromptu memorials kept growing at police stations as people mourn the violent death of Officer Burks.

While the vigil for the officer was last Friday evening after the press conference held by Chief Officer Eddie Garcia, a funeral will be held this coming Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. for those who knew Officer Burks personally.

Public visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 a.m. and again Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Watermark Church on LBJ Freeway.

Dallas police officers carried Officer Burks from the Dallas County Medical Examiner to a funeral home in Dallas early Monday. In addition to the escort, a large gathering of uniformed officers was here to bear witness as the flag-draped coffin was wheeled inside.
