A new poll shows that more Texas families are having a hard time putting food on the table.

The poll comes from No Kid Hungry Texas. Director Stacy Sanchez-Hare says 7% of those questioned are having a tough time buying groceries.

The last time they did this survey was two years ago, ahead of the 2023 legislative session. Then, it was 73%. Sanchez-Hare says the cost of food is rising faster than incomes.

They found the people most affected are parents of K through 12 students and rural Texans. She wants Texas to opt into the summer EBT, Electronic Benefits Transfer, program. It would put $120 on an EBT card per child, per summer.
