Faith leaders in DeSoto are stepping up efforts to counter threats of violence at local schools following a recent spike in alarming incidents.

Last week, police in DeSoto responded to a surge of threats, both in-person and online, targeting schools. Several individuals were arrested in connection with these threats, including a 16-year-old former DeSoto High School student who was taken into custody after an anonymous tip suggested he might be armed on campus.

In response, the DeSoto Pastors Coalition is collaborating with the DeSoto Independent School District to implement new safety measures. The coalition plans to incorporate prayer sessions before and after football games and will host community forums on church grounds for staff and students.

"If you're having challenges, this invitation is for you as well because if you have challenges, we are here for you," Senior Pastor at Disciple Central Community Church Marcus King said. "We have youth church, counciling, we even have food service programs if you're challenged in that way."

King emphasized the coalition’s commitment to creating a safer environment for students and staff through these proactive community and spiritual engagements.
