Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Dr. Angelica Ramsey has submitted her resignation to the school board, which was accepted in an 8-1 vote following a lengthy executive session Tuesday night.

Her departure comes after a letter from Mayor Mattie Parker and 40 community leaders criticized the district’s performance, citing lagging STAAR test scores.

Fort Worth ISD has fallen significantly behind Dallas and Houston ISDs, with a drop from a B to a C rating in the latest accountability scores.

At a recent board meeting, many frustrated parents and teachers expressed dissatisfaction with Ramsey's leadership, though some defended her.

After two years in her role, Ramsey’s resignation leaves uncertainty about when her tenure will officially end.

Mayor Mattie Parker issued the following statement about the decision:

The FWISD Board of Trustees made a difficult decision that reaffirms their commitment to the success of our students, teachers, families, and community. I applaud the Board for the seriousness with which they have taken their roles as the elected governing body of Fort Worth ISD.
