ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD)- Two Arlington Police officers fired at a suspect who showed a gun Monday night. They had been called to an apartment complex on Lamar Boulevard between Collins and Baird Farm about 9 p.m.

Police say someone called and reported a suspicious person looking into cars at the complex. They say the caller told dispatchers the person might have a gun.

When officers got there - they could see the man lying on his back on the hood of a car. Officers shined a flashlight on him and asked what was going on. When he sat up officers saw the gun on his hip and told him to show his hands. Instead, police say the man grabbed the gun. When he raised it - officers shot him. He was taken to the hospital but didn't survive.

Two investigations are now underway - one by the homicide unit to determine if any criminal offenses were committed. The department's Internal Affairs Unit will determine if the officers followed policy.

well I guess, first off, he shouldn't have been looking in people's cars and second, he shouldn't have raised a gun at police. The gun is probably stolen and he was probably already a felon and wasn't supposed to have a gun anyway. If you make the choices that lead you to where you end up, it's your fault. But I'm sure even if it comes out that he has a long criminal history and that he really did point a gun at police, everyone will blame the police and not the person who made those choices.
