The chief executive officer of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport announced Tuesday morning that they will retire.

Sean Donohue announced Tuesday that he will be retiring after a 40-year long career in avaiation.

“It’s with mixed emotions that I have decided the time has come to pass the torch at DFW and begin a new chapter in my own life, after four decades of service to the aviation industry,” Donohue said.

In his statement, Donohue also thanked Dallas and Fort Worth's mayors and the airport's board of directors.

After 50 years of being one of the world's most connected and busiest airports, many are sad to see Donohue go but are grateful for the time he has been in leadership. The airport, being under his leadership since 2013, had created $38 billion in annual payroll, 634,000 jobs, and generated $5 billion in local and state taxes each year.

Donohue said he expects to stay in his position for a year, supporting the airport's leadership transition. Meanwhile, a global search will begin for Donohue's position led by the DFW Airport Board of Directors.
