A fire at a marina on Grapevine Lake damaged ten boats and sent one person to the hospital Sunday. The Grapevine Fire Department was first called to Silver Lake Marina about 1:20 p.m.

Grapevine Fire says the blaze appears to have started with an electrical issue when someone tried to start one boat. An investigation to confirm the cause was ongoing Monday.

"I've seen some of the pictures online. It's scary, it's scary," one man who came to check on his boat said Sunday. "It's unbelievable."

The Grapevine Fire Department says the fire spread to nine other boats.

"Some have sunk. Some have burned and were not salvageable at all," says Grapevine Fire Chief Darrell Brown.

Brown says one person on the initial boat had a broken leg and might have a head injury.

He says crews called a second alarm, and fire departments from Bedford, Colleyville, DFW Airport, Euless, Flower Mound, Hurst, Lewisville and North Richland Hills sent equipment and manpower. Brown says the nearest hydrant was 2,000 feet away, so crews had to lay almost half a mile of hose to the lake to reach a water source.

Brown credits help from other departments and crews working to reach a water source with keeping the fire from spreading.

"There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars' worth of boats down there," he says. "It could have been a really bad day, and they kept it from being there."
