Grand Prairie school board deliberates future of superintendent on leave for discrimination and harassment

GRAND PRAIRIE (1080 KRLD)- In Grand Prairie Thursday night, the school board met to deliberate on whether to terminate Superintendent Jorge Arredondo’s contract.

Earlier in the week, a judge had blocked his firing, with a hearing set for October 28th. Arredondo, who began the job in July, was placed on leave less than three months later for reportedly violating the district's discrimination, harassment, and retaliation policy.

Initially, the motive behind the board's decision to place him on leave was not immediately known and no further comment had been made by the board.

Last week, the board started a meeting and then moved into closed session. Three and a half hours later, trustees returned and voted 4-2 in support of a resolution accusing Arredondo of violating the district's discrimination and harassment policy.

"At the end of the day, me personally, I'm going to continue to stand on what policy states," Board President Amber Moffitt said during the meeting.

But Trustee Gloria Carrillo said Arredondo was never given a chance to respond to the accusation.

"I'm asking Dr. Arredondo be reinstated, that he be allowed to do the job this board voted 7-0 for him to do," Carrillo said.

Many parents also spoke in support of him during the meeting last night.
