As stifling heat blankets the West, here's what you can expect
Stifling, dangerous weather continued to blanket the West on Monday, coming on the heels of a weekend in which at least five U.S. cities, including Las Vegas, shattered all-time hot temperature records. The forecast calls for more scorching weather in the West and triple digits in the Midwest on Monday and likely through the remainder of the week. In the Northeast, temperatures are forecast to soar and air quality to worsen. Factoring in the heat index, which includes high humidity, temperatures in places like Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., will feel like 101 to 102 degrees. More than 100 million people in 25 states coast to coast are on heat alert, according to the National Weather Service.

Man uses eye sockets to break two Guinness World Records
A Las Vegas man, who works as a sideshow performer, broke a pair of eye-popping Guinness World Records using the strength of his eye sockets. United Press international says Andrew Stanton appeared on Italian TV series Lo Show Dei Record in Milan and took on the records for the heaviest weight pulled with eye sockets and the heaviest weight lifted with both eye sockets while swallowing a sword. UPI says the first title, Stanton attached large metal hooks to his eye sockets and used them to pull a Cadillac and driver -- totaling 5,319.75 pounds -- across the TV show’s stage. The heaviest weight pulled with the eye sockets is 2,413 kg (5,319.75 lb), and was achieved by Andrew Stanton (USA), on the set of Lo Show Dei Record, in Milan, Italy, on 3 February 2023.

Boeing agrees in principle to deal with DOJ to plead guilty to misleading FAA during 737 MAX evaluation
The Boeing Company has agreed in principle to a deal with the Department of Justice that will include a guilty plea to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. related to the company allegedly misleading the Federal Aviation Administration during the evaluation of the 737 MAX, according to a court filing from the DOJ. "We can confirm that we have reached an agreement in principle on terms of a resolution with the Justice Department, subject to the memorialization and approval of specific terms," Boeing said in a statement to ABC News early Monday morning. In addition to the guilty plea, the agreement includes Boeing paying the maximum statutory fine and investing at least $455 million in its compliance and safety programs. The deal is not yet final, and families of the victims of the MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 have expressed their intention to oppose this plea agreement. The families have asked for an opportunity to file their opposition with the court, according to a court filing in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth, Texas.

2 killed, 19 injured in Detroit block party shooting: Police
At least two people were killed and 19 others were injured when gunfire erupted early Sunday morning at a block party in Detroit, according to police. The shooting unfolded at approximately 2:25 a.m. during a block party on the city's east side near Wish Egan Field in the Mohican Regent neighborhood, police said. Michigan State Police confirmed on X that two fatalities occurred and 19 others were injured in the shooting. State police officials said they are assisting the Detroit Police Department in the investigation through its joint Homicide Task Force.
