Teenage girl arrested for allegedly stabbing 2 men in San Mateo park

( KRON ) – A teenage girl was arrested for the alleged stabbing of two men in a park, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

At 7:56 p.m. on Thursday, the SMPD received a call from a bystander at Los Prados Park. Authorities said the caller detailed that a female suspect stabbed a male victim and was then being held on the ground by witnesses.

Responding officers located two men holding the female suspect on the ground. The officers took over in restraining her. The suspect was holding a knife in her right hand, according to San Mateo PD.

Authorities said she did not comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapon and began to "violently" fight the police. When an officer attempted to take the knife out of the suspect's hand she reportedly bit the officer. The suspect was placed in handcuffs after the knife was "pried" from her hand.

According to the preliminary investigation, police learned that the suspect was armed with a knife when she approached one of the victims, yelling at him. The suspect began swinging the knife as the victim walked away. The victim subsequently used his hands as a shield but was stabbed in the hand.

A witness ran to the scene to render aid to the victim but was stabbed in the hand as well, police said. The two men grabbed the suspect to apprehend her until the authorities arrived.

The victims were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old San Mateo resident. The teenager was arrested and booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility for the following charges:

• Attempted murder
• Assault with a deadly weapon
• Aggravated resisting an officer
• Battery on a peace officer
• Battery on a person
