(KRON) — A Daly City woman convicted of causing a deadly 2021 DUI crash in San Mateo was sentenced on Tuesday. Tuuika Otoota Salt, 27, was sentenced to serve zero days in prison.

Instead of prison time, San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Michael Wendler ordered Salt to serve six months in a county jail and enter a residential rehab for substance use disorder treatment.

Prosecutors said Salt was drunk and speeding on Sept. 26, 2021 when she blew through a stop sign and T-boned another vehicle on North Humboldt Street. Her cousin was riding in the front passenger seat. The cousin, 41-year-old Tapaita Stoval, died from injuries suffered in the collision.

Salt told police that she had been drinking Patron tequila and beer before the collision, according to prosecutors.

Last year, Salt pleaded “no contest” to one count of felony vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol, and one count of felony DUI.

At another court appearance in April, Salt “tearfully addressed the court about her remorse and apologized to the victims,” the district attorney’s office wrote.
