DANVILLE, Calif. ( KRON ) — As previously covered on KRON4, Danville neighborhoods are dealing with burglars who go into victims’ cars searching for garage door openers. Now, residents are saying they are being targeted again.

One resident says it all happened in a few minutes. A group allegedly came up, and one person went into her car, sat in her front seat, and went through her things. The event was also caught on camera.

“I just don’t get it,” Dori Irwin, a Danville resident living off of Blackstone Dr., told KRON4. “The car came up, people split up and looked through it– it was not locked, which is my fault, but they went through the center console,” she said.

Irwin says her car was the only one the group was able to access on Wednesday at around 4:30 in the morning. She said they sat in her car and went through it.

“This is the second time this month, and the third time overall that this happened, and I’m kind of just wondering why this particular neighborhood,” Irwin said.

“It’s unfortunate they could not have been caught faster,” Jeffrey Su, another Danville resident, told KRON4. “It’s especially unfortunate that on the second time, the perpetrators were chased into Dublin, and because Alameda County has a no pursuit rule, for whatever reason, the perpetrators were allowed to get away in Alameda County.”

KRON4 reached out to the Danville Police Department, which says it has received reports of items being stolen from unlocked cars in another neighborhood off of Emerald Drive around the same time. They are not ruling out any connections and are investigating.

Police are reminding everyone to lock their car doors and neighbors here are hoping they can see more police patrols in the area.
