( KRON ) — A 23-year-old Gilroy woman was killed in a crash Thursday morning in Monterey County, according to California Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. in the area of Nashua Road and Monte Road.

A GMC Suburban with two Salinas residents was going westbound on Nashua, east of Montre Road, CHP said. A pedestrian crossed from the south shoulder onto the westbound lane of Nashua Road in the SUV’s direct path of travel.

The GMC was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the pedestrian, authorities said. The victim, later determined to be a 23-year-old Gilroy woman, died at the scene.

The occupants of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, CHP said. The two Salinas residents inside the vehicle were not injured.

According to CHP, “alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this crash.” The law enforcement agency added the weather was “cloudy, dark (and) dry” but did not say if that was a factor in the crash.

The Gilroy woman’s identity will be released by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office when the next of kin is notified.
