SAN JOSE, Calif. ( KRON ) — The San Jose Fire Department responded to a two-alarm residential fire that killed two pets, hospitalized a firefighter, and displaced over a dozen residents on Saturday afternoon.

1 dead, 1 in critical condition after 2 shootings at Vallejo sideshow

SJFD responded to reports of a “multi-unit townhouse fire” on the 2800 block of Cicero Way in East San Jose at about 2:49 p.m. Traffic was impacted, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

Fire crews said “both units” in the complex caught fire. Adjacent buildings were also evacuated “as a precaution.”

One firefighter was injured after his “ears and face” were burned. SJFD said the firefighter was sent to a nearby hospital and that he is expected to survive.

At 5:15 p.m., San Jose fire crews said 14 displaced residents, including six adults and eight children. SJFD said residents are getting help from the Red Cross to connect to resources such as temporary housing, food and water, or hygienic supplies.

SJFD said none of the residents were injured. However, animal control has been contacted to assist with “two deceased dogs,” SJFD said.

Aside from the two townhouses, SJFD told KRON4 that no other structures had fire damage.
